Family Travel
There are as many different ways to travel with children as there are trees in a forest. Many people are
afraid to take extended or adventurous trips with their children, particularly young children. This was
the case with my husband and I after our daughter was born. We knew nothing about traveling with a small
child, but my love of travel inspired us to learn and adapt. As we researched the subject I became more
and more dissatisfied with the amount of information available and was determined to share our experiences
in the hopes that it would help someone else.
This section of the Fire Dragon Travel website is devoted to that wish and to the pixie travelers who make
trips both more fun and more challenging.
Whether you are planning a trip around your youngster's love of the Disney Princesses or are taking your
toddler on a remote safari in Africa there are unique issues to consider. There are inevitably questions
that arise when parents decide to travel with their children. Airplane rides begin to seem a little scary.
Panic can set in when wondering if you can find diapers in Chiang Mai, Thailand. But it doesn't have to be
so alarming. In fact, planning a trip with your child can be much more rewarding than any other type of
travel!
So far we have taken our daughter to three sci-fi conventions, four anime conventions, Northern Thailand
and are currently planning a trip to Gujarat, India two days after her third birthday. Below are links to
some of our travel experiences. They detail what we have found useful and what wasn't, packing lists and
reviews of some of the more important items like strollers and travel beds. There are also links to the
places that we found helpful in planning our international travel, like the CDC's pages for travelling
abroad with children.
These are intended to give ideas on how to handle certain situtations. They may not work with all children
since each child is different, but perhaps they can jump start the creative process for your travel plans.
As always, check with your pediatrician regarding health matters!!
